What does Next Flight Out mean?
Next Flight Out, often shortened to NFO, is a time-critical routing approach built around the earliest practical flight that can accept the shipment and meet the operational requirements. The literal next aircraft is not always usable, so routing must account for collection time, check-in, airline acceptance, customs and destination entry requirements.
NFO with an on-board courier
For eligible urgent shipments, combining NFO planning with a dedicated hand-carry courier can reduce depot handling and give one person responsibility for the item through the agreed journey.
Suitable NFO shipments
NFO is commonly considered for production-critical components, AOG parts, prototypes, urgent documents, electronics and other high-priority items where a delay has significant operational or financial consequences.
